Hi everyone. This is going to be an interesting one to write up, mainly because there's a lot of detail I need to omit. So please, bear with me.
Some days it isn't about crime. Some days it's just about heart. We often get hard-hearted, seeing the worst of humanity on a day to day basis. One of the things I say is “your worst day, is our everyday”, as no one generally calls us when all is well. We see people having the worst of times, as they've been a victim of the most terrible people.
And then there's today.
We met a person, details omitted, who needed support when none was available. We could've easily said “not our remit” and sent the person to a different department. Suffice to say, this had nothing whatsoever to do with crime. But two of our PCSOs saw a need. A need to help, to support. It is the “S” in the title, after all. Humanity was blossoming through, and going above and beyond, showing care when no one did, brought a grateful smile to an individual forgotten by the system. I would even go as far to say that a life was saved. By simply caring.
I cannot tell you more at this time, because to go into detail would be to reveal too much, but know this, our officers care more than you sometimes see. This will never be a case that makes the news, never a case that gets shouted about, but for that one single person, a smile of thanks shone through.
Have a great weekend,
Dave and the Team
